2011-2012 Recruitment

Recruitment for 2011-2012 is just around the corner!
In this issue of the Kite Tale, you will find a Letter of Reference form. You may make copies if you are writing more than one Letter of Reference. These forms may also be downloaded here .

Who can write a Letter of Reference?

  • Any Theta alumnae member in good standing may submit Letters of Reference.
  • A member in good standing is a dues paying member of the fraternity.

All Reference packets whether for Fall Recruitment, 2011 or Spring Recruitment,
2012 are due by May 1, 2011. All packets are reviewed by the Recruitment Board in
May, regardless of when the college holds Recruitment.

Compiling a Reference Packet:
Please type or print neatly, and fill out the form completely. Remember, your Reference form may be the only thing the active college chapter has to go on when choosing whom to recruit! Do NOT write “see attached sheet”. Include all information on the actual Letter of Reference form.

Upon completion of the form, please place a small photo of your candidate in the lower right corner on the front page of the form and make 4 copies (front and back). These copies are used by the Recruitment Board

In your Reference Packet, include:

  • The completed and signed Letter of Reference.
  • 3 pictures of the candidate – 1 close-up, 1 full body and 1 other
  • 1 copy of her high school transcript, on which the candidate has written, “released by” and signed with her name.
  • 1 copy of the candidate’s personal resume.
  • Any additional letters of support, 2 or 3 are sufficient. These letters are personal letters written by Thetas who wish to provide additional information about the candidate.
  • 4 copies of the completed Reference form.

Mail or deliver completed packets to: Liz Rigney, 5531 Sugar Hill 77056, by May 1. Turn in your packets even if your candidate has not made the final decision among her choice of colleges.   Notify the Recruitment Board as soon as her choice is made.

Be sure your candidate has signed up with Houston Panhellenic AND with the Panhellenic at her college

President's Letter

Dear Theta Sisters,

Happy New Year! I hope you have had a wonderful holiday season filled with family and friends. It’s hard to believe, but it is time to begin thinking about the 2010-2011 year and your involvement with the Houston Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta. There are so many opportunities and ways to participate in our group!  I believe that there is something for everyone, and I invite you to become a part of our group by becoming a dues-paying member.

Dues-paying members receive a directory, invitations to special events, all issues of the Kite Tale newsletter, as well as informative and timely emailed updates.  As an alumna, you may participate in one of two levels of membership: Active or Theta Star.  Both categories include the obligatory $15/person fee that goes directly to our National organization.  Should you choose to become a Theta Star member, you will be providing additional financial support towards the operating expenses of the Houston Alumnae Chapter.  In addition to your membership, if you would like to help support our college chapters, please consider making a contribution to help with their Membership Recruitment.  Our collegians truly appreciate any help we can provide, and no amount is too small.

Please complete your membership information sheets with your dues payment by February 15th.  The early deadline will allow us time to contact you if you are interested in serving on a committee for the 2010–2011 year. If you are planning to write a reference or letter of support for a potential member, or wish to participate in a Theta special interest group or be a member of the Antique Show committee, I encourage you to be a dues-paying member.  Please tell your Theta friends who have not been involved to join us or bring them to a meeting.  I hope that each of you will attend a Theta meeting whenever you can and join us in celebrating our special sisterhood!

I look forward to seeing you!

Loyally in Theta,

Sallie Wynne Mansell

President, 2010-2011
